Le boa caoutchouc, ou boa de gomme (Charina bottae), a été découvert en 1820 par le médecin Paolo Emilio Botta, en Californie. Il est également présent aux Etats Unis, en Colombie Britannique et au Canada, dans les déserts herbeux ou les forêts boisées ouvertes...
